Definitely my most loved movie this year (to date). Featuring stand-out performances by Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench, 'Notes on a Scandal'
What was thought to be a friendship between Sheba Hart (Cate Blanchett) and Barbara Covett (Judi Dench) started to turn ugly when Sheba Hart had an affair with her 15 year old student. Barbara Covett then made us of the situation to control the life of Sheba Hart, leading to an eventual unexpected ending. This is one good movie that revolves round a psycho lesbian and a woman who hates her life, who finds love in an adolescent. As much as I thought the ‘scandal’ refers to the closet relationship between the teacher and her student, an afterthought made me realize the ‘scandal’ might be more than that.
Barbara's desperate attempts to share a "secret" with Sheba Hart led her to keeping the truth of Sheba's sexual relation with her student as she felt that secret kinda forged a bond between. The biggest scandal, in my opinion, would be Barbara's secret diary, where she noted down all her schemes and her golden star stickers, which were used in abundance when her scheme succeed. It's really freaky at times as it's based on a true story. Who knows, your best friend might want to be more than just friends...
