++ mUsic+Alk (7) - The Dancing Diva Concert ...

So yesterday was one of the most happening weekend of this year. I watched a 5/5 movie titled Freedom Writers starring Hilary Swank. It was bloody good. Do watch it ya? Thereafter, it's self-explanatory so i shan't elaborate further.

I met JS at VivoCity to catch Stefanie Sun at the SK event. We waited around an hour and her performance made all the waiting worth it. She appeared after a fashion display of SK jewellery's new series. The event host - Jean Danker knew that 90% of the crowd were there for Stefanie Sun and she harped on that point rather often. When Stef finally appeared, she belted out 2 tracks from her latest album "Against the Light". Gugi Gugi made JS go nutters as it was his favourite track in the album. The video he recorded of her singing that track was also murdered as his voice covered hers most of the time due to the proximity difference. That aside, her live performance was powerful, as usual.

Stef Sun singing "Ni Guang" and "Gugi Gugi"

We then traveled to Kallang to meet Colin and his 2 friends, whom we are going to Jolin's concert with. We sat bloody close to the stage.

Jolin Tsai’s concert was a blast. She practically drowned the entire stadium with her catchy and groovy dance tracks and a smooth delivery of her ballads. I’m amazed, especially by her ballads.

Before the yanzi fans kill me, I wanna say I’m not comparing it to Stef’s concert cos they are vastly different in genres.

Jolin opens the concert with gymastics display and fast dance tracks

That said, i must say she really gave her best for the concert, especially with the gymnatics display at the beginning of the concert. She started off the concert with 玩美, which had an introduction "Ladies and Gentlemen...", so it was highly appropriate. Thereafter, it was followed by other hits like 招牌动作 and Mr Q which turned up the heat almost immediately. Popular hits like 说爱你,就是爱, 睁一只眼 闭一只眼 were also sung. However, i felt some of her dance were stiff and unsightly. Most of her ballads were smooth. She had a dance extravaganza towards the end of the concert and the entire stadium stood up to sing and dance along. It was a sight that made me realise that her ability to woo the crowd was amazing. She ended the concert with 舞娘 and 倒带.

For me, the top 5 reasons why this concert was such a success.

(left)the last segment, (right)the encore

  1. The last segment was a medley of songs like 野蛮游戏, 爱情36, 看我72 turned the entire stadium into a dancing party.
  2. Her extremely impressive performance of 假面的告白, 棱蒙草的味道, 假装 and 倒带 made me look at her from a different light, for the first time.
  3. The encore track 舞娘, the best dance display for the night.
  4. I’m amazed at how many of her songs I actually know, I’m sure many others too.
  5. She’s Jolin Tsai… Mandopop’s #1 Dancing Diva.
