++ Vanilla Sky.

So i watched Vanilla Sky on Wednesday night. I vaguely remember it was rated RA when it was released in 2001. My parents went to the premiere where Tom Cruise graced the event. Still, it wasn't very suggestive. In fact, i would refer it as a gem.

.

David (Tom Cruise) was the handsome and attractive individual who was left with his fathers entire empire after the latter died. He was in an open relationship with Cameron Diaz who later became jealous when he was head over heals in love with the stunningly pretty Sofia (Penelope Cruz). Jealousy caused Diaz, who plays the ex girlfriend to lost control which led to car accident, leaving David (Tom Cruise) permanently disfigured.

Events that took place subsequently after that included him meeting Sofia (Penelope Cruz) after he regained enough self confidence of his new look. They had a great life together, one which incorporates romance and love. Things took another upturn when he had his face reconstructed. However, the next moment, he was jailed for killing Sofia. The highly twisted ending made me shudder as David (Tom Cruise) realised the Sofia whom he had that romantic relationship with was not the Sofia in reality. He engaged an agency which creates dreams while keeping the human body frozen. Hence, all that happened was just a personal fantasy. The sofia he killed was due to a hiccup in the dream system which caused Sofia look like his ex-girlfriend (Cameron Diaz). David thought she (Diaz) had kidnapped Sofia (Cruz) and killed her.

This show made me ponder for a long while.

Would you rather be in a dream with your loved one, one who is perfect in every aspect you wanted him/her to be in the surreal dreamland created to house only the both you? Or would you rather be in reality, facing disappointment and rejection and all the problems of life.

Think. Think hard.. Choose wisely.
