"Why So Serious?"

Three weeks ago, i caught The Dark Knight in conjunction with Timo's bday. Apologies it took so long, even older entries are expected to come. =P Forgive me, i've been so caught up with stuff.
I had extreme high hopes for this sequel to Batman Begins but The Dark Knight was a tad too draggy for the excitement to follow through. Simple put, i would have given this film 5/5 if not for its long duration. The Joker, played by Heath Ledger clearly amplified his character's intelligence and scheming nature compared to Batman by Christian Bale. He triumphed over Batman on several occasions - when he faked his 'arrest' when he'd everything planned out, when he gave the wrong location of the Rachel to Batman knowing that he would save her. I'm sure everyone would have heard from one source or another that Heath Ledger gave an electrifying performance as the Joker in the film. He was perfect for that role, naturally psychotic. However, i feel it's rather unnecessary that Harvey Dent's character was so fully developed only to prove a point, that the Joker won all the battles. Ong Sor Fen penned out my exact thoughts in her review:

"What should have been a mainstream career triumph for an actor who went from teen heart-throb in 10 Things I Hate About You to celebrated thespian as a conflicted gay cowboy in Lee Ang's Brokeback Mountain has sadly become a memento mori, a testament to what might have been."
